Discrimination of product isomers in the photodissociation of propyne and allene at 193 nm

چکیده
The photodissociation dynamics of propyne and allene are investigated in two molecular beam/ photodissociation instruments, one using electron impact ionization and the other using tunable vacuum ultraviolet ~VUV! light to photoionize the photoproducts. The primary dissociation channels for both reactants are C3H31H and C3H21H2. Measurement of the photoionization efficiency curves on the VUV instrument shows that the C3H3 product from propyne is the propynyl (CH3CC) radical, whereas the C3H3 product from allene is the propargyl (CH2CCH) radical. The dominant C3H2 product from both reactants is the propadienylidene (H2CCC) radical. We also observe a small amount of secondary C3H2 product from photodissociation of the C3H3 radicals in both cases. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~99!02008-5#

Photodissociation of propyne and allene at 193 nm with vacuum ultraviolet detection of the products
Vacuum ultraviolet ~VUV! laser photoionization is combined with time-of-flight ~TOF! mass spectrometry to determine the photofragments produced from the laser photodissociation of allene and propyne in a molecular beam. Detection of C3H3 1 confirms that atomic hydrogen elimination is the primary process for both of these molecules. A hydrogen molecule elimination channel and a low mass carbon f...
متن کاملUltraviolet Photodissociation Dynamics of the 1-Propenyl Radical.
Ultraviolet (UV) photodissociation dynamics of jet-cooled 1-propenyl radical (CHCHCH3) were investigated at the photolysis wavelengths from 224 to 248 nm using high-n Rydberg atom time-of-flight (HRTOF) technique. The 1-propenyl radicals were produced from 193 nm photolysis of 1-chloropropene and 1-bromopropene precursors. The photofragment yield (PFY) spectra of the H atom product have a broad...
متن کاملPhotodissociation of allyl-d2 iodide excited at 193 nm: Stability of highly rotationally excited H2CDCH2 radicals to C–D fission
The photodissociation of allyl-d2 iodide (H2C5CDCH2I) and the dynamics of the nascent allyl-d2 radical (H2CCDCH2) were studied using photofragment translational spectroscopy. A previous study found the allyl radical stable at internal energies up to 15 kcal/mol higher than the 60 kcal/mol barrier to allene1H formation as the result of a centrifugal barrier. The deuterated allyl radical should t...
متن کاملLaser-induced fluorescence studies of C3 formation and isomerization in the 193 nm photolysis of allene and propyne
The quantum state distributions of the C, radical from the UV multiphoton dissociation of allene and propyne in a pulsed molecular beam have been measured. The observed distributions for both molecules are identical and are much colder than a phase space model would predict, implying that direct dissociation is occurring in one step and isomerization in another. It is concluded that both allene...
متن کاملInternal energy of HCl upon photolysis of 2-chloropropene at 193 nm investigated with time-resolved Fourier-transform spectroscopy and quasiclassical trajectories.
Following photodissociation of 2-chloropropene (H(2)CCClCH(3)) at 193 nm, vibration-rotationally resolved emission spectra of HCl (upsilon < or = 6) in the spectral region of 1900-2900 cm(-1) were recorded with a step-scan time-resolved Fourier-transform spectrometer. All vibrational levels show a small low-J component corresponding to approximately 400 K and a major high-J component correspond...
